Dumbbell Clean
Today's movement is the dumbbell clean. The clean will train you to raise a load from the ground and to shoulder height. You must learn to move the dumbbell explosively while vertically pulling it up and as close to the body as possible.
Start with a hip-width stance and with the dumbbells just outside the feet. You may perform this movement with only 1 DB to begin. Have shoulders above and slightly in front of DB. Keep heel down and arms straight until the hips and legs extend. Maintain a straight spine. Hips extend rapidly and "explode" at the top. Shrug shoulders and pull under with the arms. Dumbbells are caught at the bottom of the front squat, with elbows forward.
